Chapter 17B: The First Rain of May

Main objective: Take the castle

You can see each enemy’s inventory by placing the cursor over his image on the map.

When you enter the yellow area, Amalda and her group will begin to move to the left and the door (yellow) will open.

• Items/Villages/Treasure:
- 1 Knight proof when you finish the chapter (only if you either didn't ask the villagers for help or if all of them survived)
- Blaggi scroll (steal it from Amalda)
• Armory:
- Iron Bow 2200
- Steel bow 3200
- Silver bow 4000
- Silver axe 4200
• Shop:
- Fire 2200
- Elfire 3200
- Medicine 600
- Antidote 1500

• General Strategy:
- Minimum number of units you can use: 8
- Maximum number of units: 16

Now you're just a short distance from Lenster. This chapter is really easy, in the broad sense of the word. There's nothing here that will get in your way, except of course all the ballistae grouped together near the north end of the map. And even though it seems incredible, there are only two important items in this chapter: Amalda's scroll and a Knight Proof that you'll get at the conclusion of the chapter.

Flying units aren't recommended for this chapter since, as you know, there are a lot of ballistae. You could bring one (at most) to explore the village on the map's remote mountaintop. About the villages: they won't give you any items, but will instead offer you some help in order to make this chapter much easier than it would be otherwise.

The villages that are located together represent just one village. If you enter any one of them with Leaf, there'll be a dialogue between Dorias, August, and another man who'll ask you if you should accept the villagers' offer for aid (in the form of offering themselves up as ballista bait). If you accept their offer, villagers will pour out of the houses. These villagers are units like any other; that is, they can be anything from swordfighters to mages and priests. They're not very powerful, however, and will die from only 2 hits, but they do make great decoys for the ballistae.
Frankly, it's not necessary to ask for their help since at the end of the chapter they'll give you a Knight Proof. If, however, you do ask for their help, they will still give you the Knight Proof, as long as none of the villagers die, but it's a lot harder to do.

The villagers will appear from the houses and at the end of the turn after you accept their help.
They will continue to appear for some three turns, but sometimes more villagers will appear than others.

Then there's the other house on the mountaintop. The guy there will offer to help you by opening one of the gates to the castle (where you'll find Amalda). Of course, it'll cost you 20,000 for said help. His help isn't as great as he says, but it'll help you take out some of the ballistae, and also to get to Amalda and steal the scroll she brought with her.

If you decide to pay, remember to put someone in front of the gate so that you can pass.

But if you decide to do without the extra help, between the King Sword, Nanna, and some other units that can gain support bonuses among themselves, you can give your advancing units enough avoid to evade all of the attacks from the ballistae (but if you do this, you won't be sending all of your units towards the boss, just a few units and that's it). I also forgot to mention one small detail: the ballistae tend to attack Leaf, even though other members of the group have lower avoid.

Once you have everything under control, place your units on the border of the yellow line, and on the following turn, go after the boss and end this mission as soon as possible.

There's not much to say. This boss is extremely easy; he doesn't even have any weapons that can attack from distance. In other words, he won't cause you any problems unless you attack him head-on. Once you've defeated him, wait for Amalda's army to come after you, that way you can steal her scroll.

Amalda will initiate the attack when you find yourself in the biggest yellow area. Honestly, at this point her troops don't pose a threat to you, and actually, with her low strength, neither does she, and you even have forest near to gain evasion. And finally (I know you're tired of hearing this), steal her scroll. I recommend that you kill her after you take it, since you can't recruit her (at least not on this route) and she'll only cause problems in later chapters. Now, take the castle. If you completed the requirements, you'll obtain a Knight Proof.
