Chapter 2x: Pirate Isles

Main objective: Take the fort

You can see each enemy’s inventory by placing the cursor over his image on the map.

This is an optional chapter: You will gain access to this chapter if you save all the villages in Chapter 2.

This map has fog of war. Vision is reduced to three tiles per unit,
and everything on the map that’s not within that range will be completely black.

• Items/Villages/Treasure:
- You get a Torch (single-use item, not the staff) when you place a unit on any of the forts indicated on the map (yellow)

• Enemy reinforcements:
- Turn 2: Enemies appear inside the black area.
- Turns 5 to 9 (approximately): Pirates from the forts on the upper part of the map.
- Turns 10 to 14 (approximately): Pirates from the forts on the lower right part of the map.
- Turns 15 to 20 (approximately): Pirates from the bigger island on the lower part of the map.

• New units:
- Lifis (Thief) joins automatically at the beginning of the following chapter if he’s captured in this one.
- Shiva makes his first appearance here. He won’t join you (yet), but don’t kill him unless you don’t want him on your team. You can capture him (and take the items), but don't release him.

• Special Event:
- Talks: Leaf > Eyvel

• General Strategy:
- Max number of units you can bring: 9

This is the first mission with “fog of war” that you’re familiar with; this increases the difficulty of the game a little bit. (And in this game, the fog covers EVERYTHING in black; you don’t even know what the layout of the map is, it’s a whole lot more than just “darker”.) But don’t worry – in the map, there are relatively few enemies that appear at the beginning (but in fact there are more enemy reinforcements than it appears).
The map resembles a conch shell – there’s lots of annoying curves, and this is made worse by the fact that it’s a night map and you don’t have any torches yet. Speaking of torches, there are two located on the marked forts (yellow squares). They will be very useful, so don’t use them right away. The enemies are the same as the last chapter, mostly pirates and hunters, and there are 2 warriors that can be a problem if you don’t kill them right away. That’s pretty much it. I have to clarify something about the reinforcements: they might or might not appear on any given turn, the forts where they generally appear are marked, and the majority of them are located on islands, so it will take them a while before they get to you.

You’ll arrive at a castle where you’ll encounter a thief; you should capture him using one of your units, and don’t let him go. Also, there is a swordfighter on a fort. Don’t kill him, since he is a unit who will join you later. Once you’ve captured the thief, you can peacefully capture the fort.

This is the boss of the pirates who attacked you; however, he’s unarmed, so just capture him.

Shiva

Stats 24 6 0 9 12 5 4 7 -- 1

Unlike the previous boss, he’s armed and I don’t recommend attacking him because of the skills that he has and the fact that he can land a critical hit with his sword. Just leave him alone and complete the mission. Even though someone told me once that he moves on his turn…normally he doesn't and I don’t know what that guy did to make him move, but just take the castle as soon as you can and you’ll avoid any surprises.
